Michael Stoner, who directs the UCLA Alzheimer’s Research Center in Los Angeles, said he thinks the drugs will help treat Alzheimer’s.
“I think this is a real big step,” Stoner said. “If we can get these people, I think we could help them.”
The FDA has yet to approve a new drug that treats Alzheimer’s, but some doctors have already said they are worried it won’t be approved. Pfizer, which manufactures Viagra and Cialis, is expected to follow up on its trials with the drugs.
Viagra is the company’s second-biggest selling product, behind Cialis, which was first approved in 1998. Sales of the pill reached $2.6 billion last year, exceeding the $3.
